From 3GPP Spec to Live Network: Safely Deploying 6G Security in a Multi-RAT, Legacy OAM Environment.
6G security looks promising in 3GPP specifications: zero-trust architectures, post-quantum cryptography, stronger radio-interface protection and AI-assisted defense. The hard part is deploying these ideas into large, existing multi-RAT networks where stability and avoiding any user impact are the primary goals. In practice, the most demanding work is often around the surrounding ecosystem : legacy OAM systems, older software releases, CI/testing pipelines and operational practices that can become easier gates to exploit than the new standard. This presentation focuses on what really happens when 6G security meets an operational network: how multi-RAT coexistence constrains design choices, how OAM and internal tools must evolve so they do not weaken new protections and how changes have to be introduced in small, carefully ordered steps to keep users safe. By following realistic deployment paths, it illustrates why strong security concepts are more difficult to introduce than simply increasing key sizes and how disciplined engineering can still bring them to life without sacrificing overall network stability.
