Senior AI Engineer – Agentic Systems
About the role.
Help shape the next generation of digital services at ABB Electrification Service Division. We are looking for a Senior AI Engineer – Agentic Systems to unlock agentic AI capabilities across our digital port-folio and turn them into real customer value. In this role, you will help build intelligent systems that support customers in achieving their most important asset management goals: higher reliability, better predictability, greater availability, improved sustainability, and smarter lifecycle decisions. You will work at the intersection of AI, backend engineering, and enterprise integration to transform architectural designs into secure, scalable, production-ready solutions.
ABB’s digital and service portfolio is increasingly focused on customer experience, comprehensive as-set management, digital enablement, and sustainability outcomes. This role is a key enabler for translating that portfolio direction into intelligent products and workflows that help customers reduce downtime, improve maintenance decisions, optimize operations, and extend asset life.
As a Senior AI Engineer – Agentic Systems, you will build, integrate, and operate production-grade AI agents and agentic workflows across ABB ELSE digital services. You will own the engineering required to move beyond pilots into secure, reliable, enterprise-ready solutions. This includes agent orchestration, enterprise tool integration, evaluation, monitoring, control mechanisms, and operational excellence. The role also has an important team uplift dimension: you will mentor colleagues and help raise the internal bar in agentic AI engineering.
The work model for the role is: hybrid #LI-hybrid
You will be mainly accountable for:
Develop AI agents and multi-step workflows that support ELSE digital service and asset management use cases.
Turn solution designs into scalable, production-ready implementations across the ELSE landscape.
Connect agent workflows with enterprise platforms, operational data, APIs, and digital tools used in ELSE services.
Define effective patterns for tool use, context management, memory, orchestration, and workflow execution.
Create evaluation and validation approaches to ensure agent quality, safety, accuracy, and performance in real use cases.
Implement human approval flows, fallback mechanisms, and operational guardrails.
Ensure production readiness through testing, monitoring, deployment automation, and controlled releases.
Work closely with architects, product owners, data engineers, and software teams to deliver reliable, business-ready ELSE solutions.
Qualifications for the role :
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
7+ years of experience in software engineering, including designing and delivering enterprise-grade backend and cloud-based solutions.
2-3+ years of hands-on experience building AI-powered applications, LLM-integrated systems, or agent-based workflows in production environments.
Strong backend engineering skills, ideally in C#/.NET, with Python as a strong plus.
Strong experience with APIs, Git, CI/CD, cloud deployment, and secure enterprise integration.
Experience with agent evaluation, testing, verification, RAG, memory patterns, context management, and agent control mechanisms.
Experience monitoring and optimizing AI systems for reliability, performance, and cost.
Understanding Microsoft enterprise security, compliance, and identity patterns, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams and mentor colleagues.
Building a cleaner, smarter future takes all kinds of minds: the curious, the courageous, and the creative. That's why we welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences.
